Over Halfway and Gaining Momentum!

We're pleased to announce that the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department reports that 176 permits to rebuild homes lost to the Waldo Canyon Fire have now been issued! The fire destroyed 347 homes in late June 2012. The first permit to rebuild was issued on July 24, 2012, just 14 days after the fire was declared contained. Additional permits are expected to be issued as homeowners continue to work with their builders and, in some cases, their insurance companies on open insurance claims originating from the fire.

The cooperation between public, private, and nonprofit sectors to eliminate roadblocks in the rebuilding process has been a significant reason for the fast pace of recovery. Numerous people and organizations have been part of this successful effort over the last 11 months. Community volunteers and local businesses have tirelessly supported every facet of the recovery: from debris removal, to crisis counseling, to providing discounts for homeowners who had to replace the entire contents of their homes.

However, the biggest factor of all is the will, dedication and tenacity of those affected by the Waldo Canyon Fire for working through the tedious and heart-wrenching process of rebuilding.

Mountain Shadows, we salute you!
