Important Insurance Timelines

It is hard to believe that we are already approaching the first anniversary of the Waldo Canyon Fire. As that date approaches, Colorado Springs Together (CST) wants to remind residents of the Mountain Shadows community with open insurance claims of the importance of reviewing any claims deadlines with your insurance company.

Insurance claims practices and deadlines differ between insurance companies. However, if your claim is not likely to conclude prior to June 26th, CST suggests that you communicate, in writing, with your insurance company asking them to waive their policy timelines to a mutually agreed date and have them send an acknowledgment, in writing, of that extension. In most instances,  your insurance carriers will work with you on this extension if they have not done so already. However, they are not required to extend time limits -  only the insurance company can make this decision.

You need to act now to determine whether your insurance company will waive their policy time limits. Please do not delay in confirming their position.

If your insurance carrier refuses to provide such an extension, you need to decide whether to accept their position or seek legal advice on how to protect your right to bring a suit against your company within the one year timeframe that most policies require.

If you need assistance understanding your policy's claim time limits, CST suggests you communicate directly with your agent or insurance company immediately.
