Mountain Shadows, Black Forest Resident Mentorship Program
As the Black Forest Fire destroyed homes and property last month, Colorado Springs Together volunteers discussed how lessons learned following the Waldo Canyon fire might be applied to the Black Forest recovery.
One concept was to form a Mentorship Program that pairs up residents from the Mountain Shadows and Black Forest communities with the purpose of sharing knowledge gained from the Waldo Canyon Fire with Black Forest families on their journey to restoration.
Over the last several weeks, we've been coordinating with the various groups working on the Black Forest recovery effort, and we are now jointly ready to move forward. Leaders from the Black Forest efforts will ultimately drive the Mentorship Program in order to help the residents of Black Forest move quickly through the various stages of their recovery.
We realize this is short notice, but we are going to hold a meeting tomorrow evening for potential mentor families to discuss what this program will look like.

After signing up, Mountain Shadows families are encouraged to attend tomorrow's meeting. We will be discussing what mentor families can do versus things they probably can’t or should not do. We will also be taking suggestions in terms of how we might support the Black Forest families.
