Poetry: Perspectives on Hope
With the help of the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Voices from Japan: Perspectives on Disaster and Hope exhibit is coming to Colorado College and will be surrounded by related events open to the public. The exhibit will present a sampling of art including poetry, calligraphy, photography and a film that were generated in response to the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disasters in Japan.
Because of the shared themes of hope and art as a form of healing from natural disaster, Professor of Japanese and NEH Professor of Humanities at CC, Joan Ericson, will be reserving a section of the exhibit for poetry written by those affected by the Waldo Canyon Fire. Photos will also be displayed with the poems.
If you would like to participate, please send your poetry in PDF form to Professor Ericson at JEricson@ColoradoCollege.edu. Alternately, you may drop off your poetry at Colorado Springs Together: The Center.
Poetry and photos must be submitted no later than March 5th to allow the curator time to print and mount the submissions.
Additionally, some Waldo Canyon Fire poems will be included in a panel discussion on Thursday, March 28 at 4:00 p.m. in the Cornerstone Art Center Film Screening Room. The panel will explore literature written in the wake of disaster. The poetry could be read by the poet, or if preferred, by a CC student.
The exhibit will be available to the public from March 25 to April 6, 2013. It will be housed in the I.D.E.A. Space of the Cornerstone Arts Center, on the SE corner of Cascade and Cache la Poudre. When open, the safety of the items on display will be secured.
