Mountain Shadows Rising
As we approach the end of 2013, it is hard to believe that it will be 18 months since the devastation caused by the Waldo Canyon Fire. Despite the tragedy and loss, the Mountain Shadows neighborhood shows incredible commitment and tenacity to rebuild. The enduring determination to fully recover allows the neighborhood to overcome countless challenges.
Thanks to the amazing community spirit of the neighborhood and the power of the larger community of Colorado Springs, there can be no greater testament to what was achieved than the results below.
Rebuilding Recovery Hits 70%
Of the 347 homes lost, 242 new home permits have been issued. 160 of these have been completed with families moving back in or new neighbors arriving to proudly call Mountain Shadows their home.
Home Values are Up by 15%
Through the end of September 2013, the median value of homes sold in the neighborhood was up by 15% from before the fire, with the most recent data showing a median home sale price of just over $360,000.
Elementary School Enrollment is Up by 32 Students
Enrollment at Chipeta Elementary increased by 22 students this year, up to a total of 457. Just across the hill, enrollment at Trailblazer is up by 10 students.
