Mountain Shadows Community Association (MSCA) recently announced in an eblast that five artists have been selected to create concept renderings for the Waldo Canyon Fire Memorial. The concept renderings are to be based off input gathered last winter from Mountain Shadows residents.

The drafts will be available next month for community viewing and feedback!

When:

Friday, January 10, 2014
6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Where:

Front Range Alliance Church
5210 Centennial Blvd.
Colorado Springs, CO 80919

The church's Kaleo Coffee shop will be open during the event.

What:

Videos by the artists will be shown during the event, and comment cards will be made available for neighborhood feedback.
We are pleased to present the names of the five semi-finalists!

In no particular order:

  • Robert Barnum (Michigan)
  • Tom and Jean Latka (Pueblo, Colorado)
  • Eileen Gay Sparks (Nevada)
  • Kathleen Caricof (Loveland, Colorado)
  • Christopher Weed (Colorado Springs, Colorado)
(of no relation to Steve Weed)

These five artists were selected by the Memorial Artist Selection Sub-committee out of 86 interested artists from across the United States and internationally. Thank you to all the artists who applied.

Shortly following the rendering preview event, the Memorial Artist Selection Sub-committee will make their final decision and notify the artist. A contract will be developed between the selected artist and the City of Colorado Springs, as this memorial will become a permanent piece of public art, owned by the city. The memorial is to be completed and installed in time for its dedication ceremony on June 26, 2014 in Mountain Shadows Park.

We extend gratitude to the Memorial Artist Selection Sub-committee for their hard work and heartfelt dedication during this daunting task. We also thank Steve Weed again for donating his artwork for the community auction fundraiser that secured the funding needed for the memorial.
