Sandbag Workday Details

Note: This is a two-part email. The first with details concerning volunteers, the second with details for the neighborhood residents.

The Colorado Springs Office of Emergency Management and Colorado Springs Together are hosting a Sandbag Saturday on Saturday, September 1, 2012.

When:
Saturday, September 1, 2012
7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Volunteers will work in 2 hour shifts. Linda will schedule groups in the available times, but will attempt to coordinate with each group's requested times as closely as possible.

Where:
2424 Garden of the Gods (at 30th St.)
Verizon- South parking lot
Look for the Volunteer Tent.

What:
Filling sandbags with 60 pounds of sand, moving the filled sandbags to locations for pick-up by residents, and providing informational handouts and sandbags to residents.

Who:
Any group who would like to help. Please bring work gloves, shovels, and dress appropriately – long pants, sturdy shoes, etc. (volunteers will get sandy).

Details for Residents

We are unable to provide transportation of the sandbags from the pickup point to residences. However, we will have volunteers filling sandbags and helping the residents load them into their vehicles so that they can provide some flood protection to their homes.

While we are not be able to provide any specific instructions on the placement of the bags, we will have information available from various sources for the residents to review as they decide how to protect their property.
