Reminder for Saturday: Fire Adapted Communities Workshop

We would like to remind you that this upcoming Saturday, in the Lowe's parking lot, there is a one-hour community workshop with hands-on instruction about selecting the right construction materials for, and maintaining homes in, wildfire-prone areas. The workshop is conducted by the Fire Adapted Communities Coalition, in cooperation with Lowe's Home Improvement and local and state partners, including Kris Cooper, Colorado Springs Deputy Fire Marshal in charge of Construction Services, and Keith Worley, regional Firewise advisor.

When
Saturday, September 22, 2012
11:00 a.m.

Where
Lowe's Parking Lot
4880 N. Nevada Avenue
Colorado Springs, CO 80918

What
A workshop based on the latest wildfire building science research conducted by the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) and best practices from the Colorado Springs Fire Department.

The one-hour workshop will feature full-scale displays created by IBHS, which will be used to visually demonstrate the types of materials that perform best under wildfire conditions, as well as other materials and designs that would be more vulnerable during wildfires. Materials used to construct the displays were generously donated by Lowe's.

Representatives from Colorado Springs Together, the Rocky Mountain Insurance Information Association, and local and state fire organizations will be on hand to answer questions and share information about local resources available to assist homeowners in preparing for, or repairing and rebuilding after a wildfire.
