Estimated Ignition Resistant Costs
Based upon information provided by the Colorado Springs Fire Marshall on the proposed new fire code requirements for the Colorado Springs Hillside Overlay areas, the Housing and Building Association of Colorado Springs has prepared estimates of the relative cost increases for the use of the proposed ignition resistant materials. The estimates are based upon various assumptions which may or may not apply to every home and are for the purpose of comparing estimated costs of construction with different materials. The analysis shows that for a 2-story home of approximately 2,300 - 2,900 sq.ft. (excludes basement sq. ft.) the estimated additional cost of ignition resistant materials is around $600 to $3,000. For an approximately 1,600 - 2,200 sq.ft. ranch style home, the estimated additional cost would run from just over $900 to a little less than $2,500 over and above the cost of using traditional wood siding materials.
The estimated increase in cost for use of ignition resistant materials for a 160 sq.ft. deck is $600 - $1,000 and for a 500 sq. ft. deck is $2,000 over the cost of traditional wood decking material.
