Emergency Management: How to Ensure Disabled Citizens are Registered

After the Waldo Canyon Fire forced the evacuation of 30,000+ people out of the north west area of Colorado Springs, we received several questions concerning citizens unable to evacuate themselves.

Pikes Peak United Way’s 2-1-1 Information and Referral Program, working in conjunction with the El Paso County and City of Colorado Springs Offices of Emergency Management, would once again like to stress the importance of Emergency Evacuation Registration. This system provides a database of citizens needing assistance in the event of an evacuation, including need of specialized vehicle transport and/or equipment.

In the event of an emergency requiring an evacuation, the confidential registration information will be made available to Emergency Management and First Responders. Please note that this information is ONLY provided in the event of a disaster to assist in identifying those unable to self evacuate their homes without assistance.
