Colorado Fire Relief Fund
In an email we sent on 10/19/12, we outlined disbursements from the local Pikes Peak Region Waldo Canyon Fire Assistance Fund, designated to address unmet individual needs through the services of a variety of local non-profit organizations. Click here to see a list of those organizations.
The State's Colorado Fire Relief Fund was established by Governor John Hickenlooper to address unmet intermediate needs such as those of community organizations and volunteer fire departments involved during the devastating wildfires occurring across Colorado this year. To date, approximately $1.3 million has been raised through private sources including generous individuals, businesses, and foundations. Governor Hickenlooper appointed the chief executive officers from eight community foundations across Colorado to serve as the Allocation Board for this fund, with David Miller, CEO of The Denver Foundation, serving as the chair. As of September 21, 2012, the fund has awarded a total of $819,410 through two rounds of funding and anticipates that all funding will be awarded by the end of 2012.
The City of Colorado Springs has been awarded $147,003 in the first round of grants. Projects funded include: sandbags for the community, trees to restore the open spaces, a chipper to enhance the Wildfire Mitigation projects in the community, and improvements to the catch basin above the Autism Center in Mountain Shadows. The City continues to apply for the remaining grant funds as projects become ready for funding.
In October, Colorado Springs Together was awarded a grant for $10,000 from the Colorado Fire Relief Fund to help support our ongoing restoration efforts based out of Colorado Springs Together: The Center (located in Mountain Shadows), our web-based communications and other activities to help the community.

Colorado Springs Together is a community-driven volunteer effort, and is an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The team members are distinguished citizens and business professionals in the community facilitating and coordinating a quick and effective rebuilding process for the neighborhoods devastated on June 26th by the fire. The donations received will go towards the activities required to help restore the lives and the neighborhoods affected by the fire at the same time maintaining a strong sense of community during the rebuilding process.
